Artix Linux — Welcome Home

After years of searching, I’ve finally come home to running Artix Linux.

I took this image through glass, aboard a sky tram on the longest ropeway in Japan en route to Tairyuji Temple to record the enormous sound of its temple bell.

I like a stable computer system without junk. Artix Linux is the answer. The idea is basically just Arch Linux without systemd. There are Artix base install options for three non-systemd init systems: openrc, runit, and s6.

You can use these base ISO images to install a base system, just like with Arch, and from there, you can install whatever you like on top. There are also ISO image options for various desktop environments: cinnamon, community-gtk, community-qt, lxde, lxqt, mate, plasma, xfce.

If you decide to give Artix a try, I highly suggest the runit base, and after installation, simply install LARBS to get an easy, ready-made system with minimalist suckless software. This is really best, straight forward way to try it out. You’ll end up with a very stable, l33t system with minimal effort on your part.

Really, let me reiterate how easy it is to get this going thanks to the larbs.xyz install script Luke Smith provides.

Here’s some notes from this excellent video:

lsblkfdisk /dev/sdxmkfs.ext4 /dev/sdx1mount /dev/sdx1 /mntbasestrap /mnt base base-devel runit elogind-runit linux linux-firmware vim grubfstabgen -U /mnt >> /mnt/etc/fstabartix-chroot /mntbashln -sf /usr/share/zoneinfo/American/New_York /etc/localtimehwclock --systohcvim /etc/locale.gen # uncomment en_US.UTF-8vim /etc/locale.conf # LANG=en_US.UTF-8pacman -S networkmanager networkmanager-runit openssh openssh-runitln -s /etc/runit/sv/NetworkManager/ /etc/runit/runsvdir/currentgrub-install /dev/sdxgrub-mkconfig -o /boot/grub/grub.cfgpasswd(... oops, don't forget the /etc/hostname & /etc/hosts stuff)

Then install LARBS.xyz

I have no affiliation with the content creator who made the embedded video, but it is excellent and the notes above follow the video.

Enjoy!
